Just about 44 years ago, Rocky Johnson and Barbara Hair Johnson got married a week before me and Dan. Gerard Driscoll and Mike Bayer married them. We were at their wedding and Dan was in their wedding. Life went on and we never saw one another again (except once in 1982 or so Rocky came to our 14th and Ximeno apartment in Long Beach that was on top of a three car garage selling vacuum cleaners so he could see us) until Monday 2/6/23 when Rocky and Barbara were helping friends from Marble Falls, Texas move to Colorado.
Rocky was Dan’s first roommate when he first moved out of his parents’ house. They lived at 11th and Redondo in Long Beach.
Dan and Rocky met at Jedediah Fellowship and then both of them started going to Calvary Chapel of Long Beach.
Dan and I met at Calvary Chapel of Long Beach and so did Rocky and Barbara. (She used to be called Bambi in the Long Beach Calvary days.).
Rocky and Barbara ended up following Mike Bayer to Calvary Chapel of San Pedro and moved to Bellflower, so that may be why Dan and I didn’t see them again.
This was a spur of the moment and not easy to get together encounter that will never be forgotten. Hopefully we’ll not wait for 44 years to see one another again!
